Simba: A Journey from East to West

Exactly one hundred years after his Javanese great-grandmother, Sanwiradji, was silently shipped to Suriname, filmmaker Dimitri Madimin follows her journey from Java to the Mariënburg plantation and on to Amsterdam, where the colonizers centralized their power in the monumental headquarters of the Dutch Trading Company: De Bazel. A cinematic quest across three continents for identity and transgenerational resilience.
