Katibo Ye Ye

The film explores themes that connect part of the African heritage with the Maroons and the culture of Suriname. Central to this is the transatlantic slave trade from Africa to South America.
In the film Frank Zichem outlines how the slavery past still affects the present. Zichem manages to create an emotional layer that makes any discussion about the slavery past insignificant, because it makes you feel what it is about to the core. Using a road movie-like structure, the Dutch-Surinamese and African perspectives are linked.
