Jaap Hillenius, Attempt To Get Closer

A triptych about the life and work of painter Jaap Hillenius (1934 – 1999). When Jaap Hillenius died in a tragic traffic accident, his ultimate painting was not yet completed.
But in the oeuvre he left behind, his unique place in contemporary painting can be recognized. Jaap Hillenius made his own way, against the fashion of the times. George Seurat (1859 – 1891) was an example for him. In his thinking he was influenced by the writer Marcel Proust (1871 – 1922 ). His daily life, his painting and his passion for ethnographics reflect his desire to make visible the ultimate moment of beauty.
